Message from the Principal

August 13,2009

Dear Pumas and Puma Parents,

Welcome back to school! With the start of the 4 day School week this year, there are many changes for everyone to experience. The staff at Bisbee High School is devoted to assist all of our students to adapt to the 4 day school. It is our intent to make Bisbee High School a place where all students will feel welcome, feel safe, and feel that they are being provided a quality education.

I have had several meeting with the new Bisbee High School Dean of Students & Athletic Director Mr. Mike Bunnell in regards to athletics and overall school safety. Student Handbook changes that will go into effect for 2009/2010 that apply to athletics and school safety that all students and their parents need to be aware of are:

  • In order for a student to participate in AIA programs, he/she must be enrolled in at least 5 credit bearing classes(Senior only need 4) , must have a GRADE AVERAGE OF 70% OR BETTER in all classes being attempted. It was felt that our athletes needed to maintain at least a “C” average to be an active participant in extra-curricular activities.
  • Closed Campus: Only SENIORS with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better and are on track to graduation will be allowed to leave campus at lunch. All other underclassmen are required to remain on campus as Bisbee High School is a “Closed Campus.” A “Closed Campus” requires that students remain at school all school day unless checked out of school by a parent or guardian.
  • Lockers will be assigned to students by grade to specific areas of the school. By assigning student lockers to specific areas of the school the school can better monitor lockers as schools are expected to do periodic locker searches as part of being Safe and Drug Free.
  • Cell phones must remain hidden and silent during scheduled class periods and passing period. Students found to be in violation of this policy will forfeit the electronic device in question to the administration for a period of 5 school days for a first offense.
  • Bisbee High School welcomes to our staff Dr. Dean Anderson (Choral Director) Mr. Steve Barr (Physics & Chemistry), Mr. Bill Sullivan (Special Education), Mrs. Gail Farmer (Special Education), Mr. Todd Welch (Algebra) and Mr. Allen Wright (Academic Counselor).
