Message from the Principal:

It is a great pleasure for me to welcome you to Lowell Junior High School on behalf of the faculty and support staff. Lowell is a school with a tradition of service to its students, parents/guardians, and community stakeholders, and we hold high expectations for all our students in both the areas of academics and behavior. Attending Lowell is an excellent way to round-out a child’s middle grade experience as we expect students to set and achieve not only academic goals but personal, co-curricular/athletic, and community responsibility goals. We have built into our master schedule math, reading, and writing interventions to help students to not only succeed in these areas but to excel. The faculty at Lowell is outstanding as it is a nice blend of master teachers with years of experience and pedagogical knowledge, and bright, young new teachers with up-to-the-minute ideas. Our professional educators care about the students they are entrusted with and Lowell is a supportive community on all fronts. My role as the principal is one of service, support, and advocacy. I value the voices of all stakeholders and encourage their participation in their school.

It is our belief that a student’s middle grades experience strongly impacts the odds of graduation from high school, and that if we are to achieve the nation’s goal of graduating all high school students ready for college and a career, that students must enter high school with grade level or higher skills and knowledge. Students’ middle grades experiences are critical in launching them toward achievement and attainment of the only secure path to adult success – finishing high school. Lowell Junior High is instrumental in the acquisition of this path for the students that enter its doors.

Lisa Holland, Principal
Lowell Junior High School

Vision:

We envision LJSH students demonstrating excellence through ownership of their
learning in order to become Lowell Academic Scholars, because at Lowell…

  • All students will have access to Pre-Advanced Placement classes,
  • All students complete Algebra and are proficient in English, and
  • All students in extra-curricular activities will be passing all courses.

School Improvement Goals 2009/2010:

  • Math Goals:
We will increase the math proficiency percentage in 8th grade from 69% to 80% by AIMS test 2010. We will increase the math proficiency percentage in 7th grade from 45% to 70% by AIMS test 2010. We will increase the math proficiency percentage in 6th grade from 51% to 70% by AIMS test 2010.

  • Reading Goals:
We will increase the reading proficiency percentage in 8th grade from 73% to 85% by AIMS test 2010. We will increase the reading proficiency percentage in 7th grade from 61% to 80% by AIMS test 2010. We will increase the reading proficiency percentage in 6th grade from 67% to 80% by AIMS test 2010.

  • School Culture Goals:
We will increase the number of positive recognition activities from quarterly to monthly during school year 2009-2010 starting September 2009. This goal will be measured by an increase in attendance to 98% and by a 15%-20% decrease in discipline referrals using the September 2009 numbers as the baseline and the May 2010 numbers as the end point. An improvement in the school culture will be measurable by positive responses on district surveys and on exit interviews.
