Child Find
-
Child Find is a legal requirement that ensures school districts actively identify, locate, and evaluate children who may have a disability and may need special education and related services. In Arizona, school districts have an ongoing responsibility to identify and evaluate eligible students, including children enrolled in public schools and, as applicable, children who are homeschooled or attending private schools within the district’s boundaries.
Child Find applies to students who are suspected of having a disability, regardless of the severity of the disability or the student’s academic performance. The district works collaboratively with parents, teachers, administrators, and other appropriate personnel to recognize concerns, gather relevant information, and determine whether an evaluation is warranted. Early identification and appropriate intervention help ensure that students receive the supports and services they need to access and benefit from their education.
